Ofcom's consultation on geolocation for cognitive access

Ofcom has published a discussion document to explore the potential of licence-exempt access to interleaved spectrum/TV whitespaces. Specifically, the consultation concerns the geolocation requirements. The main questions relate to:

  • The type of information in the database
  • The number of parameters/level of complexity
  • An appropriate update frequency (e.g. every 2 hours)
  • Is a database practical?
  • Should the information have a limited 'shelf-life'?
  • Who should be allowed host it
  • Covering the costs of running it
  • Mechanisms for providing information to it

The deadline for responses is Feb. 9, 2010.
